If you have been trying to get back into your skinny jeans post delivery but been having a hard time doing so, there may be a few things you are doing wrong. You should be aware that giving birth is traumatic on the body and need to give your body time to heal.

Many dieters lose the game of weight loss before they actually begin by placing high expectations that are unsustainable. This is because most people think that once you change your diet you should start dropping weight instantly. This is not the case at all.

In fact, it is this very misconception that pushes so many to abandon their efforts before they really begin. Even if successful in lowering your daily calorie intake, you will more likely to binge if you make sudden changes. Setting unrealistically high goals do nothing but set yourself up for failure.

The bottom line is when you set high expectations that are often unrealistic you are just setting yourself up for failure. If you really want to thin out of your maternity wear you have to set realistic goals for your weight loss. In addition to setting your own goals, make sure you consult your personal doctor to ensure you are proceeding in a healthy manner.

Arrange your goals so that that are in small increments of fat loss. Be realistic and aim to lose only 10 percent of your overall body fat as a starter goal. This is an achieveable goal and you can work toward it easier than you would if you were considering a larger number of body fat loss.

Once you have figured out this number aim to lose between 1-2 pounds per week. This means that if planning on losing 25 pounds you will want to plan for three months. Eat less, or exercise more, with the ideal situation you will do both. You will need to reduce between 500-1000 calories to reach this goal.

Reward yourself with something other than food when you reach your mini-milestones. When you have lost 5 pounds, make sure to celebrate. This will motivate you by reminding you how hard you are working.

Keeping a journal that documents what you are eating and how you are exercising will help you along your journey as well. You will begin to notice as your food lists get healthier and your exercise routine gets longer as you get stronger. These steps will help you retire those pregnancy clothes permanently (or at least another pregnancy) behind that unused portable space heater that you have tucked away with the rest of your unusables.
